Up in the Clouds

This week, we are featuring clouds for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Are your feeling the gloom from gray, cloudy days, or feeling positive with your head in the clouds?

I've had a rough start to the year, but I'm still feeling positive. This week, my card was created with some of my favorite supplies. I created my own papers with watercolors!

The clouds were die cut from a sheet of striped watercolor blues.

My background was created with a splashy watercolor wash which I then stamped over.

So simple to do, and so much fun!

Waffle Flower Challenge

I've been playing with my Waffle Flower Crafts stamps. I know that you've seen me use this set many times. It's a favorite of mine. 

Waffle Flower Crafts is currently hosting a photo challenge here and I wanted to play along. This is the inspiration photo. Isn't that room gorgeous? I am in love with those walls.

I had originally intended on making three flowers and using all of the colors, but it became too busy, so I edited it to two flowers of the same color. A bit of gold glitter embossing gave it some shine.

Winter Matchbook Tutorial

I don't like Winter. I really don't. We lived in Michigan for many years, so I'm very familiar with snow and cold. The bitter cold seeps into my bones and hurts. When I saw the that the theme this week was "Winter Stamping" for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, I panicked. All I could think of was cold. Then I recalled the tale of The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen, and I knew that that mini matchbooks would be a great project. If you haven't read the story, Spoiler Alert: The cold kills her. But let's think of something a bit happier...

These little books are easy to make and they're a great way to use some of those embellishments and smaller papers languishing in your craft supply stash. The 6x6 paper pads have prints in a smaller scale. This project can turn those extra sheets into something you'll be proud of. A scoring board (or a ruler and bone folder) is necessary for making straight and even fold lines. I used a Tiny Attacher for my binding, but a stapler works too.

Accurately cut a variety of papers for your "pages". You will need to cut approximately ten pages for each book. The amount of pages you need will depend on the thickness of the paper. The matchbook cover bends along the score marks and folds up and over the edge. (Where my fingers are in the photo) Attach the cover to your pages with your Tiny Attacher. Easy-Peasy!

I made several of these one evening. It was fun using all of my little embellishments.

Kitschy Blooms

We are getting inky this week for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. This week the challenge is to create an inky background. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

My project began with humble beginnings. I dropped, splatted and dribbled inks and sprays onto watercolor paper until my hearts content. This messy play was the basis for my Kitschy ATC's

I was, in effect, coloring the flowers before I stamped them. After all of the inks had dried, I stamped the retro inspired flowers in permanent black ink and highlighted portions with a white ink pen.

The ATC's reminded me of the funky prints that would adorn the walls of my Grandmothers house during the 1970's. A quick trip to the dollar store for cheap frames and my humble, inky splats transformed into fun, retro wall art.
