I Heart You

I received a few of the latest new Avery Elle stamps and dies in the mail yesterday.  They arrived just in time to enter the latest AEI♥U Challenge, which is ending soon. This month, the challenge is a sketch done by the talented Nina Yang.
I created this card using the "Aim High" stamps and dies.  I *LOVE* those dies!  I am still going through my love of water color phase, so I painted the sentiment background with my paints.  I tried to match it with that lovely ombre paper from the Glitz "Finnley" 6x6 paper pad. This was pretty easy to do, since I haven't cleaned up my desk in ages, so all the supplies were already right in front of me.  Please tell me that I'm not the only one who creates a HUGE mess while constructing one little project.  Anyway....I had a fun afternoon. :) Tomorrow, I need to clean.  Really bad.

Dotty Display

This weeks theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog is "Dotty".  Who doesn't like polka dots?  They're bold and cheery!  I used Crate Paper's The Pier collection to create a tabletop photo display.  The Pier has lots and lots of polka dots!  And the Flower Girl from Artistic Outpost looks like she's up to the challenge.  She can handle all those balls in the air!
Crafting with the wire in this project was much easier than I thought it would be. And creating the little honeycomb balls was as easy as folding circles in half.  And super fun!
Don't forget to upload your "Dotty" project to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and you could be the next winner of a $50.00 shopping spree to the Simon Says Stamp store.  Your project could also be chosen to be featured in our designer spotlight.  Cool, huh?

Sunshine Flashback

Summer may be over for some; but here in the mid-south, it's still steamy.  At Unscripted Sketches, they are celebrating "Flashback Summer" to reflect on Summer's  gone-by.  My card is from Flashback Sketch #69.  Since the sketch is a flashback, it seemed only fitting to use a few stamps from years gone-by.  The flower stamps used here were designed by Dave Brethauer and are from Rubbermoon.  Anyone care to take a guess as to how old they are?  I'm thinking that it's possible that they were purchased in the late 90's.  But maybe a few years later.  I don't remember.
The sentiment is from Ali Edwards.  And I created the background with watercolors.  Watercolors are so, so fun!  I will be using them more often!

Carnival Lights

The Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog is going to the "Carnival" this week!  My project celebrates the carnival lights.  I fondly recall going to street carnivals each year when I was a small girl.  After dark, the sleepy mid-western town town became a magical place full of food, fun and colorful lights.  It was a real treat!
Using my Martha Stewart Ornament Template, I created a paper lantern to replicate the atmosphere of old-fashioned carnival lights.  It wouldn't be a lantern without bulbs, so I strung some Christmas wire through stamped light bulbs from the Tim Holtz mini blueprints set.  (The Christmas wire I found in my stash and I don't recall where I got it, or how long it's been there.  I think that the old-fashioned tinsel trim or pipecleaners would look cuter.) I topped it off with some vellum fringe and a bit of polyester trim from the Dear Lizzy collection.
Join in the fun at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog.  Show us your "Carnival" inspired artwork and you could win a $50.00 voucher to the Simon Says Stamp Store.  Your entry could also be chosen to be featured in the Designer Spotlight and you could get a cool new badge for your blog!

Tag Book

Yay!  It's Monday!  That means that there's a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog.  This week the challenge is to "make the cut". Use your die cutting system and/or punches to create a project.  This week I used my Avery Elle "Simply Tags" die to create a vintage inspired mini book.
I love to use vintage ephemera in my projects whenever possible, so when I found a damaged old children's reader, I knew that I could repurpose some of the pages. And that's what I did!
I cut the pages using the tag die.  This worked beautifully!  I was able to cut sections that had images on both sides.  I collaged the pages with papers and stenciling.  (This also help cover some of the crayon marks and imperfections on the original page.)
When I was pleased with the tags, I arranged them accordion style on a double sided paper that I scored.  And bound them with a cover.  A simple piece of twine was all that was needed for the books closure.
I love that sweet Jenni Bowlin flair!
